The long awaited book, The Speak/e/s Family of Southern Maryland, has been printed and is being shipped out now! 

The book is a compilation of years of research by members of the Speak/e/s Family Association. It contains a comprehensive genealogy of the first 5 or 6 generations of the family of the immigrant Thomas Speake of St. Mary’s County, Maryland. The book describes the journey and lives of our 17th and 18th century pioneer ancestors, including the migration of the family out of Southern Maryland. It is filled with fascinating details and stories gleaned from 17th and 18th century records about the descendants of Thomas. 

The book is over 370 pages long, including a thorough and reliable index which contains the names of approximately 1,500 persons. It contains 18 chapters with over 2,600 footnotes. The chapters have been written by 17 members, with many other members contributing their research and editing skills. It will be published in both hard back and soft back versions so you have a choice of type of book. 

So this book is much more than a “who begat whom” genealogy. The history of our organization is recounted from its founding to the present. The book has chapters that make the results from DNA testing accessible to non-technical readers, informing how DNA testing has enriched our understanding of our genealogy.
